I have a worm factory and haven't experienced the same problems; however, I would imagine just getting some small square blocks of wood a few inches tall and placing them in the corners of your trays would help. I think you need to have the upper trays in relatively close contact with the surface of lower trays to assist in the upward migration of your worms.
